Kim Leadbeater’s general election campaign office was opened with a stirring speech from Labour front-bencher Lisa Nandy.

Speaking to volunteers at the HQ in Cleckheaton, Lisa Nandy said the people of Spen Valley couldn’t hope for a better MP. She said:

“They don’t make them like Kim very often. She’s not just a politician, she’s a fighter and she’s a campaigner. Ever since the day she was elected she has fought for everybody here in her constituency. It’s her home, it’s her community, it’s her friends, it’s her family, it’s her neighbours. For Kim, people here always come first.”

Kim thanked her as a fellow ‘strong northern woman’ and warned that the election result was very far from ‘in the bag’. She added: “Our towns and villages across Spen Valley have been let down by the Tories over the past 14 years. But we will only get the change this country needs if people go out and vote for it.”
