Two of Labour’s metro mayors have been in Spen Valley to support the election campaign of Kim Leadbeater.
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, joined Kim in Mirfield where he said, “There’s no-one who brings more passion and enthusiasm to the job than Kim. She is one of the most energetic stand-out MPs that we had in the last Parliament and if people do come out and vote for you – as I hope they will – you’ll be so in the next.”
Referring to the Conservative party candidate, who stood twice for mayor against Mr Burnham and lost both times, he said, “You don’t want people coming in from other places to represent this area. You’ve got to know this area, be from this area, and you are.”
Thanking him for his support, Kim Leadbeater said, “You’re right. For people here it does matter that their MP knows the local area and the local issues, and if I am elected it will be an absolute pleasure to represent Spen Valley.”
Joining Kim to campaign in Heckmondwike, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said, “Kim is a great local candidate. I’ve been so impressed by the hard work she’s done on local issues, national issues and on international issues as well. If people want change on July 4th the message is simple. Vote for change, vote Labour and vote for my good friend Kim.”
