I will be working for all the people of Batley and Spen until the general election, but after the Electoral Commission decided to divide up the current constituency I took the difficult decision to fight the new seat of ‘Spen Valley’ when the election comes.
On paper, Spen Valley is a Tory-held marginal so it’s a must-win seat for me (obviously!) but for the Labour Party too. Wehave a huge amount of work to do to get ready for an election that could come as early as next May. So I need YOUR help!
We’re out knocking on doors, talking to voters, conducting surveys and identifying our support, but with a large area to cover – including wards we’ve never targeted before – we simply need more boots, shoes, trainers, flip-flops, whatever on the ground.
Whether you live in Spen Valley, or are in a neighbouring area,or have some spare time to travel over and help, I’d be so grateful for any support you can give.
Depending on your capacity and availability that could be canvassing, leafletting, making phone calls and everything else that goes towards a successful campaign. You don’t have to be a Labour Party member – although you’d be very welcome to join.
Spen Valley has a notional Tory majority of 2,872 so it’s winnable but definitely not in the bag.
